Welcome to the temporary blog, while Guess is MIA. I will defer to the Queen of Smack when she returns to blog world, but in the meantime, this space is here to smack as you will. I check in daily at Lip Smacking Scrap, so it will be no problem to do likewise here. If you have a topic you would like to be smacked, or just opened up for discussion, either post a comment, or email Scrap Smacker at smackcentral@hotmail.com

first. and hmmm... topic.... well, that's kinda hard considering I haven't heard of anything major going down.
Of course, I get all my news from scrap smack so... duh.
Aw, MAN. Aeryn beat me. :P (And is it possible to get rid of the word verification?)
LOL. We'll get there, this industry is never quiet for long...
And maybe get numbers?
Ok, word verification off, what do you mean by numbers... Don't blog, just surf, so this is a little new!
Thanks for putting this up, SS!
Though I have absolutely nothing else to contribute :P
Did anyone receive the new CK? It's finally a little thicker than usual(It is a bi-monthly mag now). The content is improving. Some new names appeared for layout examples. All in all not a bad magazine.
Thoughts....
I haven't seen the new CK yet. I'll have to pick it up today and check it out. No smack, but a question:
are border punches now "out"?
Just been noticing lately that some of my fave bookmarked cardmakers no longer seem to be using them.
I love them and I'll continue to use mine, but I guess I'll have to get over not being in style. It also kinda sucks since I looked to them for inspiration on cool ways to use them and now they've disappeared:(
Maybe blogger can't number the comments. I'm too lazy to look. :P
I don't think blogger does individual numbers. we just have to respond to time stamps of when someone posts.
as for CK, I've been wicked disappointed with them lately. The only thing I liked was there was an article on how to use photos without cropping them, and how to use 4x6 in interesting ways.
Border punches... I hope they're not out, cos I just bought mine and they're great. As for inspiration I guess I'm lucky in the sense that I don't much shop around for it. Yeah, sometimes I get stuck, and sometimes if I don't know how to use up a paper pack that I love I'll see if someone has used it in a way I can imitate. But mostly I go my own and when supplies go "out" that's just what you gotta do.
Do not buy the Tim Holtz book! I was an idiot and bought it. 30 pages with nothing more than ads about his stuff and ca 35 pages with techniques, and those you can find for free on his blog and on the Ranger homepage. Just a waste of money! I feel a proper fool ;)
I'm a huge border punch fan, and I think it's one 'trend' that regardless of being in or out, will stay because we scrappers love a versatile, good value product. Much better than one use things like Bazzill's edge strips.
Oh good. Nice to hear others still love the border punches. I've always thought the same thing--they're a versatile tool and have now become a staple item in my stash.

Well clearly you ARE actually a fool. Tim works for Ranger. Tim makes products for Ranger. Tim creates every single thing using Ranger products. Tim's style is all about Ranger products.
Did you expect a book about scrapbooking double page layouts? Maybe you expected to see a book about clean and simple design.
FFS you quite simply are the idiot of the day!
Boarder punches will never go out of style as far as I'm concerned. They are a staple, just as important as stamps and chipboard.
As far as TH is concerned, I am seriously sick of him. He is a walking advertisement. He should just sew all of the sponsors on his clothes that the nascar drivers do. Can he possibly pimp anymore product? It all looks dirty and identical.
I was stupid enough to buy grungeboard, however IT SMELLS TOO BAD TO USE!!! Plus I still have no idea what to do with it.
TH's distress inks and companion products are my favorite and there are a few things of his other lines I like but the new paper lines are sooooo ugly!
Grungeboard smells like old tires! TH distress inks are about all I like of his stuff. The rest he can keep. His stuff is soooo metro!
Thanks for the place
Yep, with you on the grungeboard, that is one almighty stink. Love the texture, but how is it possible for something that smells so foul not to have content that's dangerous to our photos? My take on TH - some scrappers like grungy looks to their pages, and his products cater to that. Some scrappers like girly pretty stuff - companies cater to that. Some scrappers like clean and simple - Bazzill caters to that. While I personally don't go for TH type stuff, there is a niche in the market for that product range, and those who love it really do LOVE IT - and its creator! But hey, sure is fun to smack the adoring hordes :-)
6.23pm, you are being way too harsh.
Maybe the purchaser thought that the book held techniques and projects NOT already available or published. That's what other scrappers, crafters etc do! I think it reflects badly on TH, not the purchaser.
Unfortunately, as mentioned, people will buy it anyway.
2.10pm, I hope you find a better book. :)
Not everyone reads Tim's blog you know. There are people who prefer books. Just because there is repeat ideas doesn't mean it's not useful to people in a printed format. Would everyone rather he shut his blog down so his can put out a fresh book every 5 years?
I have the book and think its great. I do have his blog on my list but don't always get to check it out. But having his book means I can find what I need when I want it. Not having to wade through his blog amongst travel stories, giveaways etc.
I'm sorry but I think the OP was very unrealistic in her expectations of the book.
Hi, Timmy! Glad you found the new scrap site. I'm glad you addressed the vicious rumor that your book isn't necessarily packed to the brim with technique...wanna weigh in on the stinky grungeboard debate, too?
I think a lot of scrap "celebs" have crap blogs anyhow. I mean, if I know you because you scrap, why can't your blog just be about scrapping? If you want to post personal stuff, travel, movie night, dinner's out, blah, blah, blah, why don't you post it on another blog and link it? I mean, really, if I don't give a crap about your personal life I'd rather not have to wade through that kind of stuff to get to the "inspiration" part.
Well, I don't know...I guess because most people have lives besides scrapbooking? I think scrapbooking only blogs are boring. But to each their own.
I love border punches. Love grungeboard (I've been spared any stinky batches). I thought I would love TH's new book, but saw it at the LSS. I flipped through it in about 2 minutes. Nothing new. No techniques. Just pictures. Nothing useful.
I know people have other lives. That's why I have two blogs, that's what I'm saying. A personal blog, about your random wonderings and crap. And then a blog about you creative endeavors. Is that really that hard? I don't see what's wrong with it, to keep stuff nice and separate so that people don't get bored to tears with 9million pictures of your children?
Yes, I think that is too much to ask. If you want to see just scrapbooking, look at galleries.
Or manufacturer blogs. That's what they are all about!

LOL.....
I can barely keep up with one blog, there's no way I could manage two! Then again, I think that the people looking at my blog are my friends, so they're probably bored to tears with my layouts. ;P
did you see where sc had to actually address members sending nasty emails about their product selling out in two minuets??
Hello all, I've been lurking but my cell phone internet wouldn't let me post comments sooo... a little silent from me.
I used to be guilty of the scrap blog that never shuts up thing, then decided that Facebook was where all that personal stuff goes, and since I hardly have time to post photos of layouts, the blog fell by the wayside too.
But as for scrap smacking... now, that you can never have too much :-)
Yeah, what is really crazy at SC is that the complaining this time around was because the EK Success punches sold out immediately. They sell those at Jo-Ann and you can use a coupon on them. And you know they are going to be available all over soon. The amount of supplies some of those chicks expect a kit club to stock is kind of nuts. And to whine about an add-on kit selling out is just dumb. Should they always have too many? They would go broke. Unrealistic expectation there I think.
As much as I love Alison Davis's scrap style, her style in this photo is - wow. Leggings under a skirt and those shoes. No words. Glad her "signature style" does not extend to her wardrobe.

Yeouch. NOT a good look. Almost makes me applaud Elizabeth Kartchner, who at least pulls off the quirky look. Alison - not so much. And you're right - those shoes... defy adjectives...
I will say I think it's crazy that people were going so crazy as to send hate mail to April but seriously this month, I almost blew chunks reading Stephanie's 'gentle' warning, so f'ing annoying and then Davinie comes on all bad and shit, 'bottom line, knock it of', oh ya or what you're going to travel to Cali and kick my ass, seriously fuck off. If people are pissed and choose to act like assholes that's their business, part of running a business is dealing with that shit, I've worked retail before, it happens, she's lucky they weren't screaming in her face.
The other thing that bugged me is throwing out the pregnancy card. Like that has anything to do with anything, other then I'm curious to see if customer service plummets after the baby comes. Anyway, they chose to have a baby, that has zero effect on my interaction with her, if I get a wrong order (which I never have and they do have super customer service) and I supposed to not say anything because she's pregnant. The funny thing is I didn't even know she was pregnant until one of the wonder twins mentioned above, I'm not sure which, said it. It is totally irrelevant.
On a plus note, the gallery this month was pretty great, it made me want to pull my stuff out and scrap, they did their job! That gallery will help to sell kits.
I totally agree about the customer service aspect, that is the job they asked for. So far, it's been great. I think I read that they were hiring more people, so hopefully it will stay the same.
The gallery was interesting. Lots of color and much less misting messes.
I love SC, so I don't shop around the other kit clubs anymore, are there any new contenders?

Yes, I know he works för Ranger, and I expect him to use their, and his, products. But I really thought there would be a lot more new techniques in this book, apart from the ones he has shown on his blog an on the Ranger homepage. And the 30 pages of blatant pimping about the products pissed me off. I was honest, I call myself a fool for buying it ( unseen, from an internetstore). What I want is to warn everyone else from buying it thinking they will learn something new.
And I recently tried the new distress inks, since that is a product I like very much. Then I thought of all the Adirondack reinkers I had. I compared them to the distress inks. It seems that Tim has more or less "borrowed" many of his new, and some of the old, distress colours from the Adirondack inks! So if you have the Adironack inks or their reinkers, use them instead!
Stephanie didn't bother me with that thread. She's just a really overly nice person. Kind of annoying, but I can deal with it. But Davinie? was agressive and rude. I'd be surprised if she didn't get in trouble with SC for things she said on the thread. She came across as a big bully.
I was wondering the same thing about Davinie, when you are speaking as the 'voice' of the company you design for, Bad Girls Julie Ann anyone, you have to be so careful about what you say and how you say it.
I mean come on, she said things like 'if it were me you'd get nothing'. Well, I guess I'm glad she's not running a kit club, it wouldn't be one I ordered from. I actually thought she got a bad rap (rep) before that thread. I won;t be bullied real life and I certainly won't be bullied by a place I'm giving my money to. Luckily, I haven't had any problems with SC but if the response I got was Davinies, that would be the last dime I ever spent there. I came across so high school bully, shut it down, it was really too much. I HOPE someone higher up told ber what her place was and that is to make pretty things with paper, not be the spokesperson for SC.
Same as bad girls, it's a good thing I can't stand her style or I would have to make the choice to find a different place to take my money.
Oh I think I missed Davinie's comments... Off to read!
I can't find that thread at all. Deleted?
yeah, I wouldn't even know where to look, but I'd love to hear the shit storm. ((grin))
Not surprising they deleted that thread. Nobody likes a mean girl. Bad for business.
http://allisonrdavis.blogspot.com/2010/03/looking-back.html
CK has really taken a turn for the worse. The sketch is an exact copy of Ali's page. Did they think no one would notice?
I think I heard that kind of thing before. Someone had submitted a page, and a few months later, it was there as Becky's sketch.
It definitely was pulled because it was by this thread about it;
http://www.studiocalico.com/forums/topic/21218
That's funny, she must have been talked to, you can't treat customers like shit and expect to keep them long, especially since I remember reading a month or 2 back they have way increased their numbers. Well, at least I know Davinies standards of practice aren't theirs!
The other thing was, it wasn't a shit storm. She was on there guns a' blazen' and the same SC groupies were right along side her. That is one thing I'll say for Stephanie, even though she started the stupid thread and was the one talking about how to treat April during her pregnancy she never pulled the mean girl stuff. I wonder if Davinie was picked on as a kid and that little bit of power has gone to her head.
I'll show you cheerleaders, SC design team, Scrapbook Cards and Trends, next the universe BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! (said in my best Plankton voice from watching to much Spongebob with my son)
Stephanie didn't say a single thing on that thread about April being pregnant. I read it multiple times and was trying to formulate my response and then it disappeared. Stephane's post was more about being a kind person in general. Davinie's posts were VERY aggressive and mean, or at least read that way.

Looks like LB is getting back in the game! I knew she couldn't stay out too long.
I was the one who said that SH said April was pregnant, if it wasn't her that's my bad. She wasn't bullying anyone just, in my opinion, bringing up something that should have been dropped after Aprils post last month. Sometimes when you put yourself in the middle of drama you don't come out looking clean, ie me remembering wrongly that it was her talking about how to treat April with her being pregnant and all. I for one will treat her exactly the same as if she had 10 kids or none, like a business owner, period, grateful they have nice product and great customer service but at the same time if a mistake is made I'll say something, albeit nicely.
If someone is going to send hate mail and flip their shit over paper and punches do you really think it's going to matter to them one way or other whether or not she is pregnant anyway? To be really honest, I'm surprised April even said something on the message board last month about it. She could have just said, "I know some of you guys were upset with not getting the add on you wanted. We here at SC try are hardest to gauge what the interest will be and order from there. We will be increasing our stock next month and hope it doesn't sell out after 2 minutes again. Thanks for understanding." In a way this was all brought on by her even bringing it up in the manner by which she did. Complain to your husband, complain to your mom and dad but don't whine on your message board, unless of course you want what happened this month to happen.
This has nothing to do with DD, so I am sure it will get buried, but it really bugs me that Maggie Holmes is selling supplies on her blog. She has had tons of sponsors give her stuff for free, and now she is selling it? Seems wrong in my book!
What do you think of Heather Nichols' today video ?
11:58 ... could you please post a link to the video?
I can't stand SCS. As someone who has been stamping/paper crafting since the nineties, i couldn't believe I managed to create anything before finding SCS a few years ago. (sarcasm)
Don't get me wrong, there are some hugely creative people on there, but many of them think they are all that.
But the bigger thing for me, was the SU cultism over there. The majority of the posters seem to think SU is all there is in stamping. Yet I had never even heard of SU until I found that site! It's all a little creepy and weird for me.
And you are right about Minders...such an infantile, kool-aid swigging, "SUO" clone.
Everything about them is annoying, from calling it a "catty", to gushing over the their new color "families", to decorating their friggin houses in "Overly Ocean", to pouncing on EVERY thread to suggest a SU product when someone asks for a recommendation for the best die-cutter/punch/ink/toilet paper, to the "Is it worth it to be a demo?" threads EVERY other day........lol I could go on.
Even tho they have the other member companies, this is the culture of SCS to me, and why I can't bear the place.
I recently started a shit storm over at Studio Calico over the add-ons selling out. I just got really frustrated because I had a 5 dollar coupon and I couldn't use it for 3 months straight due to sell outs. What's the point in issuing those if you can't use the thing on product you actually want? I accused them of under buying product so it could sell out quickly and cause a sensation- it's a marketing ploy and it annoys the SHIT outta me! I understand there is a business to be run but they know their customer and they KNOW anything with a stamp will sell stupid quick so WHY not get more product? Anyway when April came on I backed off- it wasn't worth it and I learned my lesson- leave it alone and go get your shit at Joann's or your LSS. I love SC but I no longer participate in the monthly buying frenzy- it's too annoying.
